Skin needling, also called microneedling or collagen induction therapy, uses a pen fitted with very fine needles to create tiny, controlled channels in the skin. Your skin responds by making new collagen and elastin. Over a course of treatments, that renewal can help soften fine lines, improve the look of scarring and refine texture and tone.

Who performs your treatment
Every skin needling treatment at Elements is performed by Morgan, the salon's owner. She holds a Diploma of Beauty Therapy and is qualified in skin needling through SEIR Beauty School. She uses a CODE-X microneedling pen, which lets her adjust needle depth for each area of the face.
About Morgan
Most people describe the feeling as a light prickle or vibration, stronger over bony areas like the forehead and jawline. Your skin will look flushed straight afterwards, a bit like mild sunburn.
A single session can freshen your skin, and a course of treatments gives the best results. Most courses run three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, so your skin has time to rebuild between visits.
Expect redness for a day or two and some dryness or flaking after that. For the first few days:
- Leave make-up off for at least 24 hours.
- Skip retinol, acids and scrubs.
- Stay out of the sun, and wear SPF 50 every day.
- Avoid heavy exercise, saunas and swimming for 24 to 48 hours.

We won't needle skin with active breakouts, an infection or cold sore in the area, or open wounds. Skin needling also isn't suitable during pregnancy, after recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use, or if you scar easily or form keloids. Tell us about any medications or skin conditions when you book.

Questions about skin needling
- Does microneedling hurt?
- Most people feel a prickling or vibrating sensation rather than pain. It's stronger over bony areas. Morgan sets the depth for each area and concern, and will adjust if you're uncomfortable.
- Is microneedling worth it?
- For fine lines, scarring and uneven texture, it's a well-established salon treatment, as long as you complete the course and look after your skin between sessions. Results vary, so Morgan will be upfront about what to expect for your skin.
- How many microneedling sessions do I need for acne scars?
- Most people need three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Deeper scarring can need more, and Morgan will set a plan after your consultation.
- How long after microneedling can I wear make-up?
- Wait at least 24 hours. Your skin is open and sensitive straight afterwards, and make-up can clog the channels and cause irritation.
- Is skin needling the same as microneedling?
- Yes. Skin needling, microneedling and collagen induction therapy are three names for the same treatment.
