LED Light Therapy: What It Actually Does for Your Skin

By Elements Face & Body · 12 September 2026 · Skin care

LED light therapy looks a little space-age when you see it: a panel of coloured light over the face for 15 to 20 minutes. But it's one of the most studied and most gentle treatments we offer, with genuine benefits when used consistently.

How it works

LED therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that are absorbed by cells in the skin and stimulate their activity, in the same way a plant uses light for energy. There's no heat, no UV and no damage to the skin. Different wavelengths reach different depths and trigger different responses.

Red light

Red light penetrates to the deeper layer where collagen is made and encourages fibroblasts to produce more of it. Over a course, that means firmer skin, softened fine lines and a healthier tone. It also calms redness and inflammation, which is why we use it after skin needling and dermaplaning.

Blue light

Blue light works at the surface and targets the bacteria involved in acne. It's a great option for congested or breakout-prone skin, especially for clients who can't or would prefer not to use strong topical treatments.

Near-infrared

Near-infrared light reaches the deepest and supports healing and circulation. We use it to speed recovery after more active treatments and for clients with sensitive, reactive skin.

What to expect

You'll rest comfortably with protective eyewear while the panel is positioned over your face. It's gently warm, relaxing and completely non-invasive, with no downtime at all.

How often

LED works cumulatively. For a standalone course, we suggest two sessions a week for four weeks, then monthly maintenance. As an add-on to a facial, monthly is ideal. One session will leave you glowing, but consistency is what changes the skin.

LED is popular with our Bungendore and Googong clients who want results without downtime, and it's suitable for all skin types and ages.

LED can be booked on its own or added to any facial. Book online and ask for it at your appointment.
